Community Health Fairs

Parkland makes connections at area health fairs

With the wide range of services available at area health fairs, from blood pressure checks and diabetes screenings to immunizations and health education, some people use the fairs as their source of primary care. Parkland, however, believes health fairs should be a gateway to more comprehensive care.

“We work to build connections with people at health fairs and encourage them to go to a Parkland clinic to receive ongoing care,” said Cameron Carter, community development specialist for Parkland.

It is a strategy of caring for the long-term health and wellness needs of a patient, rather than simply providing incidental care.

Parkland’s Community Development department coordinates more than 100 health fairs each year throughout Dallas County and surrounding areas. Parkland provides screenings, health education and immunizations at schools, churches and city events with the goal of helping attendees find a long-term, primary care provider. Hundreds of people are served by Parkland at health fairs each year.
