Parkland Receives Meal Assistance Grant from Bank of America
March 20, 2013
Parkland Foundation has received a $25,000 grant from the Bank of America Charitable Foundation to provide meal assistance for family members of underprivileged Parkland Memorial Hospital patients. The funds are expected to impact 2,000 individuals through a new meal card program developed to address hunger within the Parkland patient community.
“This grant will help us provide Parkland cafeteria meal cards to families who either have extremely limited means or are in the throes of a catastrophic medical emergency,” said Linda Wilkerson, director of pastoral care at Parkland Health and Hospital System. “Families like this come to Parkland every day. Offering a meal card for a hot meal or cup of coffee for those with few resources will help support them physically and emotionally, enabling them to better support their hospitalized family member.”
The grant is part of ongoing investments by the Bank of America Charitable Foundation to address immediate critical needs, such as hunger and shelter, and longer term solutions that promote financial wellness through access to benefits and resources.
